In 1618 the Carmelite Fathers founded the convent dedicated to St John the Baptist. The hermitage cannot be visited, but around it a scenic ring-route of about 2 kilometers develops. The climate of the area has favoured the presence of Mediterranean vegetal species together with exclusively mountain species, among which there are several European and extra-European ornamental species. A series of panels along the itinerary describe both the environments and the single species.the pathway starts like mule track on the SS 542 that from Varazze, country far 35 KM from Genoa, goes to Sassello, 20 min. from the railway station and 5 min from municipality square. It need to follow the indications of mule track, between the gardens and the olive trees, to go to Deserto.
