Rossese Dolceacqua

Dolceacqua

Rossese, typical wine from Dolceacqua is considered the first DOC wine produced in Liguria: in fact since the 1972 about 300.000 bottles per year have been produced and just one half is sold. This red wine has a smooth, sweet and aromatic taste, of 12.5°. The 100% is cultivated on narrow terraces that offer the ideal ambience for the wine?s growth. Even if the wine is strictly linked to Dolceacqua, the production area actually includes 14 villages situated along the Nervia and Crosia Valleys, from 300 m. to 600 m. above sea-level, all over Imperia?s hinterland. The history tells about Bernabò Doria who used to carry a quantity of wine on his own galleys to encourage his warriors, before hard battles. It seems that also Paolo III Farnese Pope as well as Napoleon, were fond of this wine. Napoleon even tried to give his name to it but Dolceacqua?s citizens didn?t permit it, as they were really proud of their product . It is suggested to drink it with delicious red meat dishes like game, rabbit and stew. A10 Genoa-Ventimiglia (8 KM) Ventimiglia exit ; State road called Aurelia and main road towards Nervia valley. After tasting the famous Rossese, you should also visit the ancient village which has given the name to the wine, and Doria Castle that dominates one of the most beautiful scenery all over Liguria.
